September Meeting, and December change

Change summary: Big Tractor Mike will be participating in an event on Dec. 14, so the Suncoast Diecasters meeting has been moved up to Dec. 7. Please check our Calendar. More details to follow.

So, with that bit of housekeeping addressed, on to the September photos!

September 2013

Big Tractor Mike goes all retro with this Johnny Lightning repro of Evel Knievel’s Skycycle X-2 which successfully proved that a parachute can stop a steam-powered rocket at launch.

If you’ll recall, last month Ken picked up a Fun Ho! miniature. This time, he snags this (repro?) retro print ad via BTM. The ad’s nicely laminate in protective (and conveniently transparent) plastic.

Each car includes its own troupe of miniature clowns!

Here, Ken acquires a veritable variety of vehicles. Clockwise from left: AMX Javelin (Matchbox); Citroën CX (Matchbox): Chevrolet Camaro SS (Playart); Cadillac Eldorado (Playart); and Ford Capri (Matchbox).

You know that if an interesting garbage truck shows up, Ken will buy it. Well, this isn’t just any old garbage truck. In fact, it’s at least three! Jim done jimmy-jammed parts from a (veritable) variety of sources to create this custom. The container unit’s from one model, the cab’s from a second, and the front fender is from yet a third! And please note the thoughtful second read axle, thank you.

Garbage in ... Really cool custom out!

Some folks invest in gold. Some in silver. Bill invests in chrome. Clockwise from lower left: Rock Buster; Alive ’55; Neet Streeter; Super Van; Mustang Stocker; Mustang Stocker; Heavy Chevy; Poison Pinto; Twin Mill; and Rock Buster.

Bill smartly acquires these remarkably preserved Matchbox beauties, a Rolls Royce Crimson Silver Shadow and a Monteverdi Hai.

Yes, kids, it's true: toy cars used to be packaged in boxes, not in blisters on cardboard backers.

He also nabs a very rare NMOC Toe Joe. The Mail Truck may be fairly mundane, but it makes an interesting companion piece to the Redline-era Letter Getter.

It's the world's shortest ''Through the Years'' retrospective!

I must apologize for the cropped top of this photo. I did not realize when I set it up that I had the top of the card out of the image frame.

Let's be honest: it's really ''Buy this Collectors' Book, get these three quite uninspiring Hot Wheels cars for free!''

A genuine classic: Redline-era Porsche 917, NMOC (wide format), with collector button.

Okay, maybe plastic blisters on cardboard backers aren't so bad after all...
